Upcoming Changes to Our Privacy Policy
We're updating our Privacy Policy, effective from 8 November.
Why Are We Making These Changes?
As we continue to grow, we want to bring you along on our journey to make Transkribus a safe, transparent, and fair platform. We recognise that the growing use of AI has sparked concerns, but we want to reassure you that our vision remains unchanged: to unlock and digitally preserve the vast world-wide collection of historical documents, with your support and the help of AI. We're not driven by profit—being a European Cooperative Society (SCE), we don’t distribute profits at all. Instead, we reinvest everything back into improving the tools you rely on for working with historical documents.
We understand that privacy is a major concern for you, and it’s just as important to us. That’s why we’ve reshaped our Privacy Policy, making it clearer and easier for you to understand how we collect, use, and protect your personal data.
What Does This Mean for You?
The most significant change is that we’ve improved the structure for clarity and readability. We’ve adopted a more user-friendly tone and added information to provide greater transparency about how we process your data and what you can expect from us and our third-party providers. Additionally, we’ve removed some providers we no longer work with and added new trusted partners.
This post highlights the key updates, but we encourage you to review the full Privacy Policy for complete details.
Key Updates at a Glance:
Improved Structure and Readability
We've reorganized our Privacy Policy to make it clearer and more accessible. Using user-friendly language, we've made it easier for you to understand how we handle your personal data.
Enhanced Transparency in Data Processing
We've added detailed information to more transparently reflect how we process your data and what you can expect from us and our third-party providers. This includes clearer explanations of what data we collect, how long we retain it, and the protections we have in place to keep your data secure.
Updated Third-Party Providers
We've removed some providers we no longer use and added a couple of new trusted providers. Our policy now offers more transparency about these third-party services, such as PostHog, Typeform, HubSpot, and Twilio. We explain what data they collect on our behalf and how we ensure compliance with GDPR.
Clearer Data Collection and Processing
We've expanded details on how we collect and process your personal data when you use services like Transkribus, the DocScan App, and the Metagrapho API. This helps you understand exactly what data we handle and how.
Webinar Registrations and Communications
We've clarified how we handle your data when you sign up for webinars. We collect this information through Zoom and send communications like reminders and recordings via HubSpot. This ensures you stay informed about upcoming events, with the option to opt-out of future communications.
Cookies and Tracking Technologies
We've updated the cookies section to explain the types of cookies we use and how they enhance your browsing experience. We also detail how you can manage your cookie preferences using our cookie banner.
Data Retention and Protection
We've clarified how long we store your data. We emphasize our commitment to minimizing the amount of personal data we collect—only storing and processing what's necessary to provide you with a safe and efficient platform.
What Are the Next Steps?
We encourage you to review the full updated Privacy Policy to gain a comprehensive understanding of how we handle your personal data and the protections in place. If you have any questions or concerns, or if you'd like to manage your consent preferences, please don't hesitate to contact us at info@transkribus.org.
